Weekly Service Sites: Headstart What is your favorite Chadwick Service memory? I loved making videos to send to the kids at Headstart Santa Cruz during COVID; they were so fun to make and it was great to hear how much the kids loved them! Why do you do service? Many people do community service to better the community and help others. This is completely valid, however, I believe the main reason I do community service to better myself. In my experience with CSAB and weekly community service, I have been exposed to a multitude of perspectives and differing experiences compared to my own. Because of this, I am able to understand the problems of my community much more in depth. If everyone fully understood the problems of others, I believe the world would be a lot more peaceful. . What have you learned about yourself through service? I have learned that I am not so different compared to the people we work with. To be honest, when I first started community service, I went in with the idea that I was going to be helping others. Although this was true, I also learned that the people I worked with helped me. I had the oppurtunity to be educated on various differnt perspectives and lifestyles that I was not educated about before. Through this education, I have learned that although these people may seem different to me on the surface, at a depper level, we share many things in common. Besides service, what else are you involved in? I currently row competitively for MAC in Marina del Rey. I've also been a Girl Scout for eleven years, and I'm currently an executive board member of another volunteer/philanthropy group in the South Bay called Sandpiper Juniors. |
