Weekly Service Sites: Willenberg What is your favorite Chadwick Service memory? ...My favorite Chadwick community service memory is the Peace 4 Kids pool day last August. This was a meaningful experience because I got to get to know kids who have different life experiences from me and gain perspective. It warmed my heart to see the smiles on the kids faces at the end of the day and learn about the similarities between us. I also, of course, had so much fun! Why do you do service? I believe that if a person is born with so much fortune, they should use the resources they are born with to help make other’s lives better. I want to gain a world-view and understand other people around the world who experience and overcome daily challenges. Doing service not only helps others, but it helps me strengthen vital character traits such as leadership, collaboration, empathy, and integrity. What have you learned about yourself through service? I have learned how passionate I am about service and how I can actually make a difference in our inequitable world. I learned that I am very supportive, openminded, and even though I may not be able to completely understand the unimaginable experiences of others, I always try my best to. Lastly, I have learned to live every day like its a gift and work hard while making the most of the opportunities I am incredibly lucky to have. Besides service, what else are you involved in? I am part of the soccer team and lacrosse team. Outside of school I am part of the National Charity League (and on the National Ticktocker Council) which also focuses on philanthropies around the L.A. area. |
