Weekly Service Sites: Head Start, Royalwood Care Center What is your favorite Chadwick Service memory? My favorite community service memory was in 9th grade. At Headstart we would always do a variety of activities with the children such as coloring, singing, making animals with Play-Doh, etc. So, whenever it was time to leave, the children would yell our names saying bye. This was always very heartwarming to me because seeing the impact we as high schoolers had on these kids made me content with life; it also gave me another thing to look forward to every week. Why do you do service? I do service because there is no feeling that measures up to doing good for not only those around you but, those in other communities as well. Community service/outreach fills me with joy because I like when those around me are content and have a reason to look forward to certain things in their life such as getting visited by people like us. In addition, service not only provides an outlet for the people we go see, but it also gives us a time in the middle of our hectic day to slow down, and enjoy life. What have you learned about yourself through service? I have learned that I have a love for helping others, meaning I like to do certain community service tasks or activities because I love seeing a smile on other people's faces. Besides service, what else are you involved in? I am a member of the CIR Board and Latinos Unidos. I play soccer, I love to babysit, and I have a homemade cookie business where I donate a portion of the profits to nonprofits. |
