Weekly Service Sites: Boys and Girls Club, Canyon Verde What is your favorite Chadwick Service memory? One of my favorite community service memories is when at the Boys and Girls Club, one day a little boy came into class with his head down and sad. When we asked him why, he told us it was because the girl he liked did not want to play with him at recess... Now that right there is love at its finest. Why do you do service? The reason I do service is because it allows me to connect with people from communities outside of my own, who I would never normally get the chance to interact with. From people experiencing homelessness to little kids learning to read, everyone who I encounter has differing perspectives and experiences that I can learn from and connect to. What have you learned about yourself through service? Through service, and more specifically being on the board, I have learned that I am much more capable of doing things than I would ever have previously believe when pushed a little bit out of my comfort zone. Often times, service places you into situations that you are not accustomed. This leads to discomfort, but that discomfort is what I have found necessary to grow not only as a member on the board, or as a volunteer, but as myself. Besides service, what else are you involved in? I have been running on the Cross Country team every fall since middle school as well as track in the Spring. The team atmosphere is my favorite part of my experiences on the teem because by the end of the season we are all so close. (I also like the team snacks :). I am also involved in the Peer Mentor Program, more specifically on the Village Committee where we work to plan events for the elementary school kids on our campus. Off campus, I am on the Board for my synagogue's United Synagogue Youth Program. |
